01 Will a tooth extraction hurt?

No. We use strong local anaesthetic to ensure the area is completely numb before we begin, so you shouldn't feel any pain during the procedure. You may feel pressure or movement, but not pain. After the anaesthetic wears off, there may be some soreness for a few days, but this is manageable with over-the-counter painkillers and usually settles quickly.

02 How long does it take to recover from an extraction?

Most people recover within a few days to a week. The socket will take a few months to heal completely, but any discomfort or swelling usually settles within the first few days to a week. We'll give you clear aftercare instructions to support healing and minimise the risk of complications like infection or dry socket.

03 What can I eat after a tooth extraction

Stick to soft foods like soup, yoghurt, mashed potato and smoothies for the first few days while the area heals. Avoid hot drinks, alcohol, crunchy or chewy foods, and anything that requires vigorous chewing. After a few days, you can gradually reintroduce normal foods as the socket heals and you feel more comfortable.

04 How do I prevent a dry socket?

Dry socket happens when the blood clot that forms after extraction becomes dislodged, exposing the bone underneath. To prevent it rinsing or spitting for 24 hours after the extraction. Avoid smoking, and also drinking through a straw. Stick to soft foods, keep the area clean with gentle saltwater rinses after 24 hours, and follow all the aftercare instructions we give you. If you experience severe pain a few days after extraction, contact us immediately as this could be a sign of dry socket.
